Driving Change Road Safety at Douglas OHI

At Douglas OHI, safety is a core value embedded in every aspect of our operations. Recognising the vital importance of road safety, we recently launched a comprehensive road safety campaign to promote safer driving practices drivers. This initiative reinforces our commitment to protecting lives and fostering a culture where safety is at the forefront of everything we do.

The campaign builds on the guidance outlined in the Road and Vehicle Safety Memo issued by our Group Managing Director, Aaron Hennessy. By incorporating real-life stories, we highlighted the risks and consequences of unsafe driving behaviours, making the message both relatable and impactful. These stories served as powerful reminders that safe driving is a shared responsibility and an essential aspect of maintaining a safe workplace.

To provide a data-driven foundation, we conducted a detailed analysis of six months’ worth of In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) data. The statistics revealed key metrics such as harsh braking, seatbelt usage, speeding accuracy, and high-speed incidents. This critical data allowed us to identify patterns and prioritise areas for improvement. By addressing these specific behaviours, we aim to strengthen our driving culture and reduce road-related risks.

A vital component of this campaign was open communication with our drivers. By encouraging them to share their experiences, challenges, and suggestions, we ensured their voices were heard and their perspectives valued. This dialogue fosters a sense of ownership and collaboration in our mission to enhance road safety.

At Douglas OHI, embedding safety into every aspect of our operations is non-negotiable. Through awareness, collaboration, and data-driven insights, we are driving change and making a tangible difference. Together, we can build a safer future for everyone.
