Enhancing Safety & Efficiency: Lifting and Rigging Best Practices in KSA

At Douglas OHI, safety is a core value that underpins everything we do. Our KSA project team recently conducted a dedicated Lifting and Rigging Campaign, reinforcing our commitment to operational excellence and ensuring that every lift is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with international standards.

The campaign covered a number of critical aspects, including proper lifting techniques, equipment inspections, load calculations, and the safe use of rigging gear. By addressing key hazards associated with lifting operations, the initiative aimed to enhance awareness, prevent incidents, and strengthen the safety culture across the project.

A key highlight of the campaign was the creation of a hands-on 'show-and-tell' area featuring Dougie, our safety mascot, to illustrate best practices in lifting and rigging. This interactive setup allowed workers to engage with real-life scenarios, reinforcing safe behaviours and improving retention of key safety principles.

Competency development was another crucial focus. Our team conducted practical training sessions, enabling personnel to gain hands-on experience in identifying potential risks, selecting the right lifting accessories, and understanding load-bearing capacities. By emphasising continuous learning, these sessions empowered our workforce to make informed decisions, reducing the likelihood of equipment failures and workplace accidents.

Pre-lift planning and risk assessments were also central to the initiative. The team reinforced the importance of thorough pre-lift checklists, method statements, and lift plans to ensure that every lifting operation is executed with precision. By implementing structured planning processes, we minimise risks and maintain a controlled environment for all lifting activities.

In addition to technical training, the campaign highlighted the significance of communication and teamwork. Clear coordination between crane operators, riggers, and ground personnel is essential for safe lifting operations. Through interactive workshops, participants enhanced their ability to relay critical information, follow hand signals, and work collaboratively to execute lifts safely.

The success of this campaign is a testament to our proactive approach to safety and our continuous efforts to uphold the highest industry standards. By integrating best practices, fostering a culture of accountability, and investing in our workforce’s skills, Douglas OHI remains at the forefront of safety excellence in the construction sector.

As we continue to deliver complex projects in challenging environments, our unwavering commitment to safety ensures that every operation is carried out with precision, care, and a shared responsibility for protecting our people and assets.
