At Douglas OHI, we recognise that a healthy mind is as important as a safe workplace. To reinforce this belief, our Oman based project team recently conducted a Mental Awareness Session with PLVAQ employees, focusing on a crucial question: “How are you?”
The session encouraged open discussions about mental health, emphasising the value of each individual, recognising personal strengths, and fostering a deeper understanding of depression. Participants were guided on identifying the signs of mental distress and equipped with practical strategies to navigate challenges and cultivate happiness.
The heart of this initiative is the introduction of the ‘How Are You?’ Card—a simple yet powerful tool for employees to express their concerns. Employees can jot down their thoughts or worries in English, Arabic, or Hindi and anonymously drop them into the designated box.
These submissions will be reviewed regularly by Dougie, our internal support representative, ensuring that every voice is heard. Most importantly, confidentiality is paramount; employees can trust that their concerns will be handled with care and discretion.
Why Mental Health Awareness Matters
Stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of their role or experience. By creating a safe space for employees to share their thoughts, Douglas OHI is taking proactive steps to foster a supportive work environment. This initiative aligns with our core values of inclusion, care, and well-being, aiming to destigmatise mental health conversations and ensure that no one feels alone.
A Commitment to Well-being
At Douglas OHI, safety extends beyond physical measures to encompass mental and emotional wellbeing. We are committed to fostering a culture where employees feel supported and empowered to prioritise their mental health.
Through programmes like the ‘How Are You?’ Card, we are driving meaningful change, reminding our people that it’s okay to seek help and that we are here to listen. Together, we can build a healthier, happier workplace, one conversation at a time.
