My Health Is My Wealth

Peter Baker, Corporate HSSE Manager

Having been party to a Cancer Awareness session organised by Suha Al Dhuhli hosted by Dr Rajyasree N Kutty, I have been reminded of my greatest asset – my health.

My focus of late has been to avoid the Big C.

The Big C used to be the term given to cancer but of course these days, it is unfortunately COVID -19 that takes and makes the headlines.

As with all such sessions there are a few takeaways, these were enhanced by an interesting and informative delivery by the good Doctor, namely:

  • Of all of the different types of cancer (at least 100), prostate, colon, lung and testicular are the most common types affecting men.
  • All of them can be detected early if I look for the signs and act upon them. The earlier they are detected, the chances of a full recovery are significantly increased.

Thanks to the Good Doctor, I also came to the conclusion that the chances of me getting cancer are decided by two key facts;

  1. My genetic disposition (I`m no expert but I am not sure this in my control).
  2. The behavioural choices I make regarding, food, exercise, smoking etc.

All in all, food for thought and time for positive actions (it`s never too late), so thank you to Dr Rajyasree N Kutty and Suha.

To finish I would like to leave you with a quote from Hippocrates:

“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health”.
