1) Career Journey and Project Diversity: Could you share your career journey as an Interior Decoration Designer and describe the variety of projects you have managed over the years?
- My journey in interior design began with a passion for creating functional and beautiful spaces. Over the years, I have overseen a wide range of projects, from luxurious villas to innovative bank buildings, and modern office spaces. Each project presents unique challenges and creative opportunities, allowing us designers to bring each one to life distinctively and functionally. From selecting the perfect materials to ensuring every detail is meticulously executed, our work keeps us busy and motivated. Embracing these diverse projects is a rewarding aspect of our role in the world of design.
2) Balancing Aesthetics and Functionality: How do you balance aesthetics and functionality in your design plans, and effectively communicate with clients to understand their preferences, needs, and budget?
- Before commencing any project, our team takes the time to thoroughly understand the client’s requirements, preferences, budget, goals, and challenges. We listen to their feedback to effectively manage their expectations. Additionally, we use mood boards, sketches, and samples to communicate our ideas and vision clearly.
Achieving the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics often involves adding personal touches. To do this, we gather as much relevant information from the client as possible. We then incorporate unique furniture pieces, custom artworks, or objects of personal value to the client or their business. This allows for a personalised and inviting space.
We avoid imposing subjective opinions, preferring instead to guide clients with our expert and professional recommendations.
3) Project Management from Conception to Completion: Could you share your process of managing projects from conception to completion?
- Managing a project from conception to completion involves a strategic approach that ensures all aspects of the project are carefully planned and executed. The following steps below help us effectively navigate through the various stages of a project, leading to successful outcomes.
- Define stakeholders and roles: Clarify responsibilities to ensure everyone understands their part.
- Introduce stakeholders: Align everyone with the project’s vision, discussing scope, goals, budget, schedule, and roles.
- Set clear goals: Outline goals and deliverables in a detailed project plan.
- Prioritise tasks: List and rank tasks based on importance and dependencies, using tools like Gantt charts.
- Create a schedule: Develop a timeline considering task requirements.
- Assess risks: Identify potential risks and plan how to mitigate them.
- Communicate: Share the plan and provide regular updates in a format that works for stakeholders.
- Reassess regularly: Review the plan as milestones are met, adjusting as needed.
- Final evaluation: Evaluate the project upon completion to learn and improve for future projects.
4) Facing Challenges and Coordination Efforts: What is your approach to facing unexpected changes and challenges in interior design?
- Clear communication is essential for successful project management, particularly during challenging times. We aim to promptly inform clients about any changes, detailing the nature, reasons, and impact of the adjustments.
Remaining flexible and creative is crucial in such situations. Additionally, we carefully manage time and resources, as changes can affect these aspects significantly.
Maintaining a positive and professional attitude is key, even amidst challenges. While unforeseen circumstances can be stressful, we strive to ensure they do not impact our relationship with clients.
5) Time Management and Project Success Factors: Describe how your effective scheduling and coordination efforts contribute to project success.
- We maintain continuous communication with the client after design and material approvals. This includes preparing a detailed work contract schedule, which outlines the project’s materials, stages, payments, and completion date.
Prior to commencing the implementation process, we conduct a thorough site inspection to plan our work effectively.
Occasionally, clients request additional features beyond the original project scope. We aim to accommodate these whenever feasible, ensuring customer satisfaction and project success, though they are subject to feasibility and scope review.
6) Designing Stylish Spaces on a Budget: Can you share an example of a project where you selected furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) that balanced style with budgetary constraints?
- We currently have a project underway, scheduled for completion in June. The core area covers 700 square meters and the project involved designing the exterior of a modern-style house. Our team carefully curated materials and elements to achieve the desired aesthetic within the specified budget.
For instance, we opted for cost-effective yet stylish Iranian stone for the waterfall wall. An Indian wooden porcelain for the sitting room and wall, and Omani marble for the agricultural pond boxes. These choices were not only visually appealing but also ensured durability and functionality, aligning with the budgetary constraints of the project.
To enhance the overall aesthetics, our team incorporated cosmetic touches to the entrance, such as pathways, landscaping, and artificial grass, as well as the installation of quiet fountains. Adjacent to the wall waterfall, we have created a seating area designed for relaxation. Additionally, we have included a barbecue area near the seating for added convenience.
Moreover, we included creative solutions such as using a waterproof aluminium cast for the car park. We also selected a colour scheme of beige, grey, and black that further enhanced the overall design. The result was a project that not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, demonstrating our ability to balance style with budgetary considerations effectively
7) Embracing New Trends and Technologies in Interior Design: How do you keep abreast of current interior design trends and technologies? Could you elaborate on the software or methods you utilise to create 2D or 3D interior design plans, drawings, and mood boards?
- To stay updated with current interior design trends and technologies, I regularly read industry publications and follow influential design blogs. These sources provide valuable insights into emerging trends, innovative materials, and cutting-edge technologies.
In our design process, we begin by creating a mood board using PowerPoint. This helps us select the appropriate colours, materials, and furniture for the design. We then use AutoCAD 2D to distribute the furniture, followed by 3D Max for modelling floors, furniture, ceilings, and lighting. Finally, we use Lumion for rendering, as it is fast and creates animations quickly.
